Vitamin D3 and the Immune System
Posted by Pamela Egan of Wellness and Anti-Aging Clinic
While public awareness of the already high and growing number of health benefits offered by the fat-soluble hormone known to most of us as vitamin D3, very few medical professionals know of the full extent of D3's effect on the immune system, and the general public has only seen the tip of the iceberg.

Some of the illnesses and diseases that vitamin D helps to prevent are well known, such as rickets. However, there are literally dozens of others that have only recently been associated with vitamin D of which the public and even an alarmingly high number of doctors and health professionals know very little about.

The following is a list of illnesses and diseases that either occur more frequently in people who are vitamin D deficient, or that occur less frequently in people on a vitamin D3 supplement regimen (the difference is in how the scientists who conducted the research phrased the results of their studies):
  • Breast Cancer
  • Skin Cancer
  • Prostate Cancer
  • ADHD
  • Alzheimer's
  • Autism
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Allergies
  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Depression
  • AIDS
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Rickets
  • Influenza
  • H1N1 Flu
  • Various Autoimmune Disorders
  • Osteoporosis
  • Lung Transplant Rejection
  • Asthma
  • Childhood Obesity
  • Chronic Pain
  • Tooth Loss
  • Gingivitis
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Arterial Stiffness
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Lupus
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
This is obviously not an insignificant list. Imagine how much healthcare costs could be reduced if everyone took daily vitamin D3 supplements.

For the record, these are the illnesses, diseases and so forth that science has linked to vitamin D insufficiency or for which it has been determined that vitamin D3 supplementation can help to prevent.
